Priorities
Every Minnesotan deserves the chance to live with dignity. That means safe housing, good jobs, access to healthcare, and clean air and water. I’m fighting for a Minnesota that puts people first, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Affordable Housing
Housing is a human right. Without safe and stable housing, families struggle to maintain their health, jobs, and education. Too many Minnesotans are being priced out of their homes, especially Black women, families, and LGBTQ+ youth.
I’m working to make housing affordable and accessible for everyone.
Key achievements:
- Secured $150 million to help first-generation homebuyers purchase homes.
- Passed a Tenants’ Rights Bill so renters can organize without fear of retaliation.
- Helped manage an equitable phaseout of the eviction moratorium and connected residents to RentHelpMN.
- Expanded programs that help homeowners make repairs and improve energy efficiency.
In my next term, I will keep pushing for public and mixed-income housing, more pathways to homeownership, and stronger eviction prevention programs.
Too many Minnesotans are being priced out of their homes, especially low income people, working families, and LGBTQ+ youth.
Accessible and Affordable Healthcare
Too many Minnesotans are one medical emergency away from financial crisis.
Healthcare should be universal, affordable, and centered on wellness. It must include mental health, dental care, and addiction treatment.
I’m proud to serve in the Reproductive Justice Caucus to defend a woman’s right to choose. Reproductive care means access to contraception, testing, and safe abortions.
Minnesota should move toward a system where everyone can see a doctor, get treatment, and live a healthy life without fear of losing everything.
Investing in People, Not Corporations
Every day, it’s working people: nurses, teachers, bus drivers, small business owners, parents, who keep our communities running. But for too long, large corporations and the wealthiest few have taken more than their fair share, while everyday Minnesotans are asked to do more with less.
When corporations exploit loopholes or avoid paying taxes, it means fewer resources for our schools, housing, healthcare, and public safety. These are not abstract numbers—they are choices that determine whether families can afford child care, whether our buses run on time, and whether our neighborhoods are safe and thriving.
I believe in a Minnesota where everyone contributes their fair share and where public investments reflect our shared values. That means:
- Holding corporations accountable so they pay what they owe.
- Making sure our tax dollars provide a benefit for working families, seniors, and students.
- Investing in affordable housing, strong public schools, and reliable transit.
- Supporting the public servants who keep our state moving forward.
Taxes are how we come together to build the just society we all deserve—a Minnesota that works for people, not just profits.
Public Safety and Community Well-Being
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, and that starts with trust and respect.
The murder of George Floyd made clear that we must build safety through accountability and trust. Additionally, we need strong investment in our communities, from investing in housing, healthcare, education, and jobs that keep families stable and strong.
I believe we can keep communities safe without relying on systems that cause harm. That means:
- Expanding mental health and addiction services.
- Investing in social services and anti-poverty programs that prevent crime.
- Supporting de-escalation training and community-based solutions that save lives.
- Public safety should be about care, not criminalization.
Reliable Public Transit
Public transit connects people to opportunity. I use it myself and know where it needs improvement. I am also invested in how the Blue Line extension will impact our community, and am working to ensure that the benefits come to our residents and businesses.
Our system works during weekday hours but is often unreliable at night and on weekends. We need dedicated funding that does not depend on vehicle sales taxes.
I am fighting to:
- Expand accessible and frequent routes.
- Explore reduced or no-cost fare programs.
- Transition to an electric fleet that prioritizes neighborhoods most impacted by pollution.
- Design safer, more walkable and bike-friendly city spaces.
Transit should be reliable, clean, and equitable for everyone who calls Minneapolis home.
Climate and Environmental Justice
Climate change is real, and its effects are already here. Communities of color and low-income neighborhoods often face the greatest environmental harm.
I proudly voted on the bill to have Minnesota completely on renewable energy by 2040. I am working for a Minnesota future where clean energy is accessible and affordable for everyone.
This means:
- Protecting natural resources like the Mississippi River.
- Reducing pollution in historically burdened neighborhoods.
- Supporting clean energy jobs that strengthen our local economy.
A healthy community is one where people can breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live in safe, sustainable homes.
Closing the Achievement Gap
When local businesses succeed, our communities succeed. I’m fighting for expanded access to capital for minority-owned and small businesses so they can grow and thrive.
After the pandemic and civil unrest, rebuilding has required not just recovery but reinvestment. I want small business owners to have the resources to hire workers, invest in their neighborhoods, and pay fair wages.
A fair economy is one where workers earn enough to cover housing, healthcare, and daily needs. Everyone deserves economic stability and the chance to build something lasting.
Equitable Policy-Making
Equity must be at the center of everything we do. I believe government should actively include the people it once excluded.
That is why I fight for policies that uplift women, people of color, Indigenous communities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ Minnesotans.
I supported the creation of the Office of Missing and Murdered Black Women and the Task Force on Missing and Murdered Black Women to bring justice and accountability. I also authored the CROWN Act, which protects the right to wear natural hairstyles at work and in schools.
We can build systems rooted in equity, representation, and fairness for everyone who calls Minnesota home.
